Used similarly to human menopausal gonadotropins in treatment of female infertility stimulating development of multiple oocytes w/ the exception that being w/o LH activity. Used in patients where an increase in LH activity not required, as in polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD).
Individualized dosage. Initially 75 IU/day IM for 7-12 days followed by HCG 5,000-10,000 IU 1 day after last dose. May repeat for at least ≥2 courses before increasing to 150 IU/day for 7-12 days, followed by 5,000-10,000 IU 1 day after the last dose. In vitro fertilization 150 IU/day initiated in early follicular phase (cycle day 2 or 3). Duration: Not >10 days.
Hypersensitivity. Women who exhibit high levels of FSH, indicating primary ovarian failure, uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal dysfunction, organic intracranial lesion eg, pituitary tumor, presence of any cause of infertility other than anovulation (unless candidate for in vitro fertilization), ovarian cysts or enlargement not due to polycystic ovarian disease. Pregnancy.
